The procurement of the architectural design is one of the major activities during this phase and can be carried out in different ways.

 

One way is to invite several architects for a contest. The contestant can be chosen either directly by the Client or after a pre-qualification exercise.

 

This method has some complicated elements such as the evaluation, remuneration and copy rights and many organizations have to be involved in the process which makes it time consuming. Special rules for the process, similar to those in Sweden, are established in Latvia.

 

There are other methods of procurement, easier to handle but offering almost the same result as a contest between architects.
